About this tool

A file saved by a newer CorelDRAW will not open in an older one, and nothing outside CorelDRAW itself can write a .cdr file, so no website can turn a 2024 file into an X7 file. This tool does the next best thing: it reads the drawing with the open-source CorelDRAW reader and writes the formats every CorelDRAW version imports: a PDF 1.4 with all text converted to outlines, an editable SVG, an EPS for print workflows, and a PNG preview so you can check the result before importing.

The reader was built for CorelDRAW 7 through X7 and has been verified here on real files from CorelDRAW 3 to X5. Later versions usually open, but effects introduced after X7 can be lost, which is what the preview is for. The version of the file is detected from its header and reported with the download.

How to use it

  1. Drop the .cdr, .cdt or legacy .cmx file. Files up to 200 MB.
  2. Choose the outputs you want. The outlined PDF is the safest way into an older CorelDRAW; SVG keeps the drawing editable.
  3. Click Convert and download the ZIP. Import the PDF or SVG in CorelDRAW with File, Import.

Questions

Can it convert a CorelDRAW 2024 file to X7 or X4 format?

Not as a .cdr. Only CorelDRAW can write .cdr files. It converts the drawing to PDF, SVG and EPS, which CorelDRAW X4, X7 and every later version import, and that is how most people open a newer file in an older program.

Will text and fonts survive?

Text is converted to outlines in the PDF and EPS, and in the SVG when the option is ticked, so the drawing looks identical on a machine without the fonts. Untick the SVG option if you want text to stay editable and have the fonts installed.

What about CMX files?

Legacy CMX (from CorelDRAW X7 and earlier) is read here. The newer CMX3 format from CorelDRAW 2017 onward is not; the CMX tools on cutready.zooshan.com read that one, or save as .cdr or PDF from CorelDRAW.

Does it handle multi-page documents?

The first page is converted. Export other pages to PDF from CorelDRAW if you need them, then use the Corel-ready tool on that PDF.
