About this tool

Turn a flat image into real vector paths. Logos, line art, lettering and simple illustrations trace well; photographs do not, because tracing works by finding edges between areas of colour. Choose colour tracing to keep the artwork's colours, or black and white for line drawings and stencils, and pick a detail level to balance accuracy against the number of paths.

Export as SVG for the web and most design software, EPS for CorelDRAW and print, or a vector PDF.

How to use it

  1. Drop a JPG or PNG. Higher-contrast, sharper images give cleaner paths.
  2. Choose colour or black and white, and a detail level. Balanced is a good start.
  3. Pick SVG, EPS or PDF and click the button.

Questions

Which images vectorise well?

Logos, icons, calligraphy, line drawings and flat graphics. Photos and images with gradients produce large, messy results.

Can I edit the result?

Yes. The output is ordinary vector paths that open in Inkscape, Illustrator, CorelDRAW and Affinity Designer.

Why is there a white background shape in my SVG?

The tracer treats the background as a colour area. Delete that outer shape in your editor if you want transparency.
