About this tool

PDFs carry hidden information fields: the author name from the software licence, the original title, the program that made the file and the keywords someone typed years ago. This tool writes a copy with those fields cleared. It does not alter the visible pages, so anything written on them, and any comments or attachments, stay as they are.

How to use it

  1. Drop one PDF.
  2. Click the button and download the cleaned copy.
  3. Check the document properties in your reader if you want to confirm the fields are empty.

Questions

Which fields are removed?

Title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer, which are the standard document information fields.

Does it redact text on the pages?

No. It only clears the information fields. Use a redaction tool for content that appears on the page itself.

Is it safe to send the cleaned file?

The hidden fields are gone. Still review the pages themselves for anything you would not want shared.
